Curriculum Committee:

1. Ensure that all content areas have appropriately and specifically identified both the primary and secondary responsibilities for each of the school-wide academic expectations for learning

We questioned the validity of this.
Have dept heads share this with their people
Ensure new staff are familiar with this document, cover this in the new teacher workshop as well.
Post on homepage.

2. Ensure that all students have sufficient opportunities to practice and achieve each of the academic expectations for learning

Document student work in a portfolio.
Use staff development time to work in departments.
Ensure teachers have common planning time.
Meet in departments within two years and add to the document:
a. academic expectations for learning
b. assessments
c. list specific activities that show students have the opportunity to practice each academic expectation

Portfolios: I think this would be a management nightmare.

3. Ensure that the school’s academic expectations for student learning are incorporated into all written curriculum documents

Meet in departments within two years and add to the document academic expectations for learning
Use staff development time to work in departments.

This would mean having general people meet with curriculum coordinator / certifications, right?

4. Ensure consistency in emphasis on depth of understanding in all content areas

Support teachers going to content professional development
Use staff development time to develop strategies for ensuring depth of understanding
Ensure teachers have common planning time.
Include activities and assessments that show depth of understanding in the curriculum.

5. Modify the written curriculum for all content areas to ensure that those documents include instructional strategies and assessment techniques clearly connected with SAHS school wide rubrics

When rubrics are completed, include strategies and assessments that are connected into the curriculum documents.

6. Increase the application of higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills into all subject areas
Departments will incorporate higher-order thinking and problem-solving activities into the curriculum.
Use staff development time to work in departments.
Ensure teachers have common planning time.

Create curricula for 21st century. Do things that relate to the world that we are going into instead of the world that was.

7. Expand interdisciplinary units in all grade level curricula
This is a long term goal.
Departmental organization must precede interdisciplinary work.
Restructure schedule to allow for interdisciplinary work

This would be cool. Students could make connections.

8. Provide sufficient funding and resources to ensure that technology, equipment, and staffing levels allow for the full implementation of the curriculum
Communication between the school, the community, and the school board through media sources to discuss school funding needs.

9. Equip all professional staff member with the skills and knowledge needed to access, utilize, and analyze data to be actively and effectively involved in the development, review and revision of the curriculum

Use staff development time to review and assess current data collection.
Explore other possible more accurate diagnostics
Provide common planning time for subject area review of data

10. Increase collaboration between the middle school and the high school on curriculum review and revision
This is a long term goal.
Create stipend district coordinators for all subject areas who will assess and recommend how to coordinate middle and high school programs. Their work will form a report to be given to administrators and staff.
Increase communication between the middle school and high school through common department meetings and emailing of department minutes.

11. Provide sufficient time and structure for the development, review, and revision of the curriculum

Staff driven professional development
On going professional mandated commitments need to be reduced until curriculum revision is achieved.
Use staff development time to work in departments.
Reorganize PLGs by departments.
Create a structure for the development, review and revision or curriculum

I agree too.
Revise PLG time.
Good Idea.
Yes.
Yes, teachers need a voice in what staff development is needed.
Add 10 days to teacher contract for summer workshop.
What about the vocational schedule?
Good Idea! No new initiatives.
Especially interdisciplinary / make connections.
Start school later to allow for staff development.
If the district chooses not to allocate funds for recommendations can NEASC deny accreditation?
Overloaded plate!
